Pirelli outlines one-stop Italian Grand Prix strategies

Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli has outlined the strategy options for the Italian Grand Prix, with a straightforward one-stop approach likely.

Pirelli has brought the Supersoft, Soft and Medium tyres to the high-speed Monza circuit, with either of the two latter compounds mandatory for one stint of the race.

A one-stop approach is usually adopted at Monza due to the relative lack of tyre degradation, and the substantial time loss encountered in the pit lane.

Pirelli believes that the quickest approach is a one-stop Supersoft/Soft strategy, with a wide window for the pit stop, likely between laps 20 and 30 of the 53-lap Grand Prix.

The second-quickest approach is to start on the Soft tyres and run for 25-35 laps before switching to Supersofts for the remainder of the race.

Should warmer conditions occur, leading to the possibility of some blistering on Supersofts, then a 15-lap stint on the red-banded tyres, before taking on Mediums, has been touted as a possibility.

All of the top 10 drivers will start on the Supersoft tyres, with the remaining drivers permitted free choice from the three nominated compounds.
