Juncos Racing will continue their rapid expansion through the top tiers of motorsports, adding a Cadillac DPi program in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship to their repertoire. The team announced the partnership with Cadillac in a release Wednesday.
The team will commence competition for the 2019 season, beginning with the Rolex 24 at Daytona. The move comes only a year after the team made the jump from fielding Mazda Road to Indy programs into the Verizon IndyCar Series.
“Our entry into the top class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship represents a significant step forward for our company and also bolsters the depth and technical acumen of our teams,” owner Ricardo Juncos said in the statement. “We are also excited and humbled by the partnership with Cadillac and look forward to representing the Cadillac brand in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.”
“Cadillac has a proven history of winning and performance within IMSA and provides Juncos Racing with a championship caliber partner to begin its entry into DPi.”
The move is not only a major step for Juncos Racing, but grows the presence of the successful Cadillac DPi program in IMSA. Juncos is not alone in joining forces with Cadillac, as JDC-Miller Motorsports recently announced a move to the program from their current LMP2 configuration.
“The Cadillac Racing family continues to grow thanks to strong on-track performances by each team that has campaigned the DPi-V.R in its first two seasons of competition,” Cadillac Racing Program Manager Laura Wontrop Klauser said. “The addition of Juncos Racing brings more top-tier talent to Cadillac’s DPi-V.R program and more excitement to the IMSA grid.”
