Toro Rosso has responded to the news of James Key’s appointment as McLaren’s Technical Director by stating the Briton holds a long-term contract with the team.
McLaren confirmed reports on Thursday that Key is to take up the position of Technical Director at a yet-to-be-determined date, with Engineering Director Matt Morris departing.
Key has spearheaded Toro Rosso’s technical line-up since 2012, following a lengthy career with Force India and its predecessors Jordan, Midland and Spyker, and a brief stint at Sauber.
Toro Rosso did not initially react to news of Key’s deal with McLaren, but on Thursday morning posted a brief statement via team boss Franz Tost to present its view.
“James Key has a long term valid contract with the team,” said Tost.
“The contents of the contract are confidential, therefore we won’t comment on any of the details.”
Toro Rosso currently holds eighth place in the Constructors’ Championship in its first year of collaboration with power unit partner Honda.
