Honda has elected to fit new power unit parts to Brendon Hartley’s Toro Rosso ahead of Formula 1’s British Grand Prix.
Hartley suffered a suspension failure during Saturday morning’s final practice session and was pitched into a heavy crash, with the resultant damage leaving him out of qualifying.
Hartley will start the 52-lap race from the pit lane and Honda has opted to undertake precautionary changes, fitting a sixth Internal Combustion Engine and fifth MGU-K of the season, ostensibly giving the New Zealander a larger pool of components.
“We didn't find any considerable damage trackside yesterday, however we'll check further details back in Sakura,” confirmed Honda.
Looking ahead to the race, Hartley said: "I won’t let it [the crash] affect me. I’ve had a few crashes this year. I know how to bounce back from that."
The FIA has also confirmed that both Williams drivers have had a change of rear-wing spec after the aero stalling issues suffered by Lance Stroll and Sergey Sirotkin on Saturday.
Sirotkin has also had a change of the front wing/nose assembly area.
"We have a new rear wing this weekend and we have some new set-ups on the car," explained Stroll.
"So I think due to those new set-ups and the rear wing and all that – I don’t want to make a conclusion myself, it’s not my position to say exactly what technically went wrong – from what I understood that’s what caused a bunch of these surprise stalls."
Under Formula 1 regulations the withdrawal of the cars from parc ferme means the pair will join Hartley in the pit lane.
It means that only 17 drivers will start the British Grand Prix from the grid.
