Mitch Evans has claimed pole position for the inaugural Zurich E-Prix, beating Techeetah's Andre Lotterer to the top spot and three additional bonus points for his championship campaign.
Evans completed his initial qualifying run in Group 2, claiming provisional pole position for Jaguar Racing with a 1m 12.594s lap, beating Sam Bird's previous pace-setting time from Group 1 by 0.387s.
Unbeaten for the remainder of the group qualifying stages, Evans fronted the Super Pole shootout, accompanied by Dragon Racing's Jerome d'Ambrosio and Jose Maria Lopez, Techeetah's Andre Lotterer and Bird who was the slowest of the drivers inside the top five.
As the slowest driver to qualify for Super Pole, Bird opened proceedings for DS Virgin Racing, lighting up the timesheets with a competitive 1m 13.022s lap to lay down a benchmark time, a small tap on the barrier costing him further lap time.
Bird's provisional pole spot did not last for long, however, with Lotterer finding time out on track with a low downforce set-up, suited to the Zurich Street Circuit's two long straights which allowed the German racer to set a 1m 12.948s lap, beating Bird by a narrow 0.074s.
Lopez, who was aiming to rekindle his qualifying performances of Season Three when driving for the DS Virgin squad, was unable to match Lotterer and settled into a provisional third place after skimming the barriers on the exit of the fast right-hander of Turn 1. This time was later beaten by his team-mate, d'Ambrosio, with the Belgian securing a spot on the second row of the grid.
As the only driver yet to complete his Super Pole run, Evans was the only man standing between Lotterer and a maiden pole position while Evans too was gunning for a maiden pole for both himself and Jaguar Racing.
A 1m 12.811s lap from Evans saw the Kiwi vanquish Lotterer's time, handing him pole position for the inaugural Zurich E-Prix as Formula E gears up for the first closed-circuit race in Switzerland for 64 years.
With Lotterer qualifying in second place, Bird secured third on the grid followed by d'Ambrosio who qualified in fourth place. Lopez completed the top five.
Outside of the Super Pole shootout, reigning Formula E champion Lucas di Grassi was the best of the rest for Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler, the Brazilian qualifying in sixth place after being pushed out of the top five in the group stages.
On home turf, Sebastien Buemi secured seventh place with a 1m 13.061s lap, fronting a 7-8 qualifying performance for Renault e.dams with Nico Prost securing eighth on the grid.
Daniel Abt, who dominated last month's Berlin E-Prix with pole position, fastest lap and victory, only managed ninth on the grid in the second Audi entry while Felix Rosenqvist completed the top 10 for Mahindra Racing.
Outside of the top 10, it was a frustrating day for Nelson Piquet Jr, with the inaugural Formula E champion only managing to secure 11th on the grid.
Alex Lynn was 12th fastest while it was a disappointing day for Jean-Eric Vergne with the championship leader struggling in his Group 1 qualifying slot to only secure 17th on the grid in the second Techeetah.
Starting behind Vergne will be Venturi's Maro Engel, and the two NIO cars of Luca Filippi and Oliver Turvey, with Turvey failing to qualify inside the top 10 for the first time in Season Four after losing the back end and making contact with the barrier in Turn 3 during his hot lap.
