Max Verstappen must learn to "give in" sometimes according to Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko, following the Dutchman's latest clash with team-mate Daniel Ricciardo.
Verstappen has been involved in a number of collisions including a clash with Lewis Hamilton in Bahrain, one with Sebastian Vettel in China and then his own team-mate in Azerbaijan, which resulted in a double retirement for the Red Bull team.
Marko insists the matter is closed and the team would allow the pair to continue racing, but warned intervention may happen if things become too heated.
”The two have spoken," the Austrian told Auto Bild. "There is no bad blood. I also talked to both of them. The book is closed.
"We will allow them to continue racing. However, we will tell the race engineers in future that they have to intervene if we see that it could get out of hand."
Commenting specifically on Verstappen, of whom Marko placed much of the blame for the Baku incident, he said the 20-year-old needs to learn to reign it in on occasion.
"He [Ricciardo] was too late on the brakes. But Verstappen could have prevented the accident by evading it.
"He wants too much at the moment, he puts himself under too much pressure. He has to learn to be able to give in sometimes. Especially now, because of the frequency of incidents.
"It's hard for him, but he sees it. That was sometimes the same with Sebastian [Vettel] in the past. Max now knows that the next incident he will automatically be blamed because he's been involved in collisions so often lately."
