Kimi Raikkonen says he's "not interested" in Liberty Media's plans for Formula 1 post-2020 because he doubts he'll be in F1 when the new rules come into effect.
Liberty is due to unveil its plans for 2021 during a meeting at this weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix, where it's expected a weekend format shake-up could be proposed, alongside a new, cheaper engine and simplified aerodynamics to boost overtaking.
However when Raikkonen was asked for his opinion on what he'd like to see, the Finnish driver couldn't have been less bothered for what F1's future holds.
"In the end it’s not our decision, it’s up to them [Liberty]," he said on Thursday. "It’s their business, they make plans and decisions what they feel is correct.
"I don’t know what they’re doing, I know very little about it and I’m not interested either. We’ll see tomorrow what they say. It’s in many years’ time anyhow and I doubt that I’ll be here so it doesn’t really both me at all."
Raikkonen insists asking the drivers what they want is a waste of time because they won't be consulted on the matter.
"I don’t have the power [to decide] so what’s the point to waste thinking about it?
"I don’t understand what’s the point for me, to give you a list, because in the end I have zero power. We don’t make the rules, that’s my point, so what’s the point even making a story out of it?"
McLaren's Fernando Alonso was a little more forthcoming with an answer, calling for closer racing after describing the status quo as "sad".
"I think if you see now there are series or if you watch a race of IndyCar or whatever, that unpredictable result until the last 10 laps makes you excited in front of the television. And now we can [write] down the qualifying order for this race right now on Thursday and that’s a little bit sad."
