World Endurance Championship outfit Rebellion Racing has renewed its partnership with French constructor ORECA to build an LMP1 car for the 2018-19 'super season'.
The Rebellion R13 is the second top-category LMP1 chassis co-developed by the two companies, following on from the Rebellion R-One (pictured) that finished fourth at Le Mans in 2014.
It will be powered by Gibson's GL458 engine, which is based on the spec-LMP2 Gibson powerplant fitted in Rebellion's pair of LMP2-spec ORECA 07s last season.
Rebellion was strongly rumoured to be continuing its relationship with ORECA when its LMP1 programme was revealed in December.
ORECA decided to enter the top class of the WEC following the release of the adjusted LMP1 regulations at the end of last year, which vowed to balance the Toyota hybrids with the fleet of new non-hybrid runners through the Equivalence of Technology (EoT) system.
In addition, ORECA will continue to lend technical support to the Toyota TS050 programme in 2018-19.
"To design this new LMP1 prototype is a wonderful challenge," said ORECA CEO Hugues de Chaunac.
"When the design bureau began developing the ORECA 07, we really wanted to move up to the next level, one step higher compared to the ORECA 05."
"The successes achieved last year really motivated and convinced us to now tackle this highly competitive category."
"Fitted with an atmospheric engine, this LMP1 will face a hard task against the hybrid cars, but the Rebellion R13 will be a very determined challenger."
The R13 will be driven in 2018-19 by former Porsche LMP1 drivers Andre Lotterer and Neel Jani, plus Bruno Senna, Mathias Beche, Gustavo Menezes and Thomas Laurent.
Its public reveal has been bookmarked for the Geneva Motor Show, which takes place between March 8th-18th.
