Fernando Alonso has revealed that for 2018, he would prefer McLaren to run colours similar to the livery that he raced in at the 2017 Indianapolis 500.
Alonso missed the Monaco Grand Prix to compete at Indianapolis and the two-time champion impressed on his IndyCar debut, leading 27 laps before an engine failure forced his McLaren-backed Andretti Autosport car into retirement in the closing stages of the race.
When asked during a NASCAR media day whether he had seen the livery for his upcoming F1 campaign, the Spaniard replied: "Ha, no, not yet – but we'll see.
"I'll be happy with any colour, but McLaren and orange is part of our DNA, so it will be nice if we see some orange like the IndyCar. That was a great event and a great McLaren car there."
In 2017, McLaren scrapped its typical chrome livery of recent years and used a new black, orange and white scheme for the season which ultimately ended in disappointment when Honda failed to deliver a competitive power unit for the third season in succession, forcing McLaren to switch to Renault power for 2018.
When asked if he would consider competing in the Indy 500 again, Alonso said: "I would like to, [it was] a fantastic experience and I'd like to repeat it. In 2018 it won't be possible, as I'll be in Monaco, but once I'm not in F1, I'd like to try again. To enjoy the special moment again.
"If that's in 2019, I don't know, but I will make my best [effort] to come back."
McLaren's 2018 challenger, the MCL33, will be unveiled on February 23, days before the start of pre-season testing in Barcelona.
