Ferrari has undertaken a precautionary engine change on Sebastian Vettel’s car prior to qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Vettel, who topped Friday practice, finished second in the final one-hour session on Saturday afternoon, 0.162s behind team-mate Kimi Räikkönen.
However, Vettel’s car developed a technical problem during the closing stages and he returned to the pits at slow speed, keeping his SF70-H in second gear.
Ferrari soon deemed that an electrical fault was the cause and have changed Vettel’s power unit prior to qualifying.
Vettel has taken on a fourth ICE and MGU-H and, as a result, he has not taken a grid penalty.
Vettel currently trails Lewis Hamilton by 28 points in the standings.
