Stoffel Vandoorne will move down the grid at the Italian Grand Prix after he was handed a 25-place grid penalty for taking on new power unit components.
Vandoorne made it through to Q3 but complained of a loss of power during the session and finished as the slowest driver, though was set to start from eighth due to penalties elsewhere.
However, Honda has confirmed that a problem with the MGU-K shaft was detected.
While the manufacturer feels it was possible to change it without taking a penalty, it was judged that, due to parc ferme conditions, there would not be sufficient time in which to do so.
As a result, Vandoorne will take on Honda’s Spec 3.7 power unit, and with it a 10th MGH-H, 10th Turbocharger, seventh Internal Combustion Engine and a seventh MGU-K.
The Belgian will start in 18th position ahead of McLaren team-mate Fernando Alonso.
