Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel was left to lament tyre warm-up issues during his final Q3 run, as he was left in third place on the grid for the British Grand Prix.
Vettel held second position after the initial laps but while he improved his time on his second run, his deficit to pole man Lewis Hamilton grew, as he also slipped behind team-mate Kimi Räikkönen.
As a result, Vettel will line up from third on the grid, but reckons Ferrari can still put Hamilton under pressure at his home event.
“On the last run I was a bit compromised,” Vettel explained.
“The first sector, especially, because the tyres were not where they should have been, they [Ferrari] should have seen that on the out lap I was in a bit in traffic, in a bunch of three of four cars.
“It’s not ideal but anyway it’s a decent result, the most important [thing] is car is good, we improved it for today and also tomorrow it should be better.”
On his chances of overhauling Hamilton, Vettel replied: “There’s always an opportunity, so we’ll see.
“The target is to put him under pressure, he’s been certainly very competitive all weekend.
“Nevertheless I think it’s been a positive day for us, we improved the car, in qualifying the car was great.”
