Reigning world champion Nico Rosberg will return to the cockpit of a Formula 1 car for the first time at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Rosberg, who retired from F1 just five days after winning the 2016 title, will get behind the wheel of a 2014 Mercedes W05 Hybrid on Sunday July 2.

His Mercedes replacement Valtteri Bottas will drive the car at the prestigious Festival of Speed on Saturday.

Rosberg has remained part of the Mercedes family through his role as an ambassador, and has been present at a handful of events.

He will drive the W05 Hybrid, which won the 2014 title with Lewis Hamilton, up the famous hill climb on the final day of the event.

Ferrari will have over 20 of its F1 cars on display to commemorate its 70th anniversary, while McLaren, Renault and Williams will also showcase modern F1 machinery.

To celebrate Renault’s 40th F1 anniversary, the team will be bringing current driver Jolyon Palmer and reserve driver Sergey Sirotkin.

Williams will also have a presence at the Festival of Speed, with former champions Alan Jones and Damon Hill in attendance.

More than 60 F1 cars will be at the event, from across seven decades of the sport, with Rosberg’s demo on Sunday the headline run up the hill climb.
