Kimi Raikkonen will lead an all-Ferrari front-row at the Monaco Grand Prix as he beat team-mate Sebastian Vettel during qualifying, with Lewis Hamilton failing to reach the final segment of the session.
Raikkonen was quick throughout the opening two qualifying segments and led the way after the first Q3 runs, before improving to a 1:12.178, the quickest ever lap at the venue.
Vettel was just 0.043 seconds further back to secure Ferrari’s second front row lockout of the season, with his championship rival Lewis Hamilton down in 14th.
Hamilton was eliminated in Q2 after mistakes and traffic on his earlier laps, before his final attempt was cut short by yellow flags, caused when Stoffel Vandoorne hit the barriers exiting Piscine.
Hamilton's Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas qualified third, just 0.045s behind compatriot Raikkonen, with Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo next up for Red Bull.
Carlos Sainz Jr was the leading midfield driver in sixth, with Sergio Perez seventh, just ahead of Haas driver Romain Grosjean and the returning Jenson Button, although he has a 15-place grid penalty, meaning he will drop to the back of the grid.
Vandoorne – who has a three-place grid drop – also made it through to Q3 but was unable to take part after the aforementioned Q2 crash.
Alongside disrupting Hamilton’s last lap, it also meant several other drivers were unable to improve, with Daniil Kvyat and Nico Hulkenberg first in the Q2 drop-zone.
Kevin Magnussen was 13th, with Hamilton 14th and Felipe Massa in 15th, with the Williams driver posting an unrepresentative time amid Vandoorne's crash.
Force India worked hard to get Esteban Ocon’s car out in Q1 after his crash in third practice, and he pitted on his final lap after getting caught up in traffic with one minute remaining.
However, a late improvement from Grosjean dropped the youngster to 16th and he was eliminated alongside Jolyon Palmer, who suffered a puncture on his Renault mid-way through Q1.
Williams racer Lance Stroll was in the pits for the final moments of the session and also finished in the drop-zone, ahead of Sauber’s Pascal Wehrlein.
Wehrlein's Sauber team-mate Marcus Ericsson pulled off track in the closing stages of Q1 with damage to the left-rear, after contact with the barrier at the entry to the Nouvelle Chicane.
