Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton posted the fastest ever lap time around the streets of Monaco during Thursday’s opening practice session for this weekend's event, ahead of title rival Sebastian Vettel.
Hamilton moved clear of the pack on a 1:13.945 on Ultra Soft tyres, before setting two faster laps within 0.004s of each other, finishing with a 1:13.425.

Toro Rosso shirked the Ultra Softs and utilised Super Softs to post their quickest times, Daniil Kvyat and Carlos Sainz Jr. an impressive sixth and ninth respectively.
The Toro Rosso pair were split by Ferrari’s Kimi Räikkönen and Force India’s Sergio Pérez, whose team-mate Esteban Ocon rounded out the top 10.

Jenson Button returned to Formula 1 in place of Indianapolis-bound Fernando Alonso, and sampled the Honda-powered MCL32 for the first time.
Following steady early runs on the Soft tyres, Button switched to the Ultra Softs and made progress across the course of the session, finishing within two-tenths of team-mate Vandoorne, as he prepares for his one-off race.
Romain Grosjean had a trip up the Sainte Devote escape road en route to 15th, in front of Williams rookie Lance Stroll, who received his first taste of the Principality’s street venue.
Stroll amassed 44 laps and finished a second shy of experienced team-mate Massa.
Renault's Jolyon Palmer and Sauber's Pascal Wehrlein completed the runners as only 18 drivers were able to register a lap time, their respective team-mates running into problems.
