Robert Kubica will test a Dallara LMP2 car at Monza this week, Russian outfit SMP Racing has confirmed.
The 32-year-old former grand prix winner will take turns behind the wheel of a Dallara P217-Gibson that will be entered into next month's 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Although Kubica is not listed to take part in the French endurance classic, he will be on hand to assist with the team's preparations alongside Viktor Shaytar and Maurizio Mediani.
The trio are set to start the test today (May 23rd) and will use the Monza session as a preparatory step for the official Le Mans test day in just under two weeks' time.
"It's a great honor and pleasure for me to help SMP Racing with the preparation of the car for such an important race as [the] 24 Hours of Le Mans, said Kubica.
"Definitely, we have a lot of work to do for these two days. I'm sure, together with Maurizio and Victor and the whole team, we will get a lot of useful information for the most optimal settings of the machine. "
Kubica, who recorded 12 podiums during a five-year stint in Formula One, has recently shown a keen interest in sportscar racing and was initially listed for ByKolles Racing's World Endurance Championship LMP1 lineup before he and the team parted ways shortly before the opening race.
The 2013 WRC2 rally champion has also driven a Renault RS.01 GT car, and was in the paddock at the recent Silverstone round of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup.
SMP Racing will contest the 85th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with an all-Russian lineup consisting of Shaytar, Mikhail Aleshian and Renault F1 test driver Sergey Sirotkin.
The team has also expressed interest in contesting the second half of the European Le Mans Series calendar with its Dallara, which it is using to prepare for a 2018 LMP1 entry with the Italian chassis constructor.
