Force India would be strongly against Mercedes providing Honda with technical assistance in a bid to help the Japanese manufacturer catch up.
There is speculation suggesting Mercedes and Honda are holding talks which would see the Anglo-German team assist Honda in the development of its power unit, as Mercedes reportedly did with Ferrari.
Force India, which is a Mercedes customer team, would not support the proposal however, according to deputy team principal Bob Fernley.
"As a team that’s not only paid for its engines but contributed to the development of them I would certainly be very negative towards sharing that technology with another team that is a competitor of ours," he said on Friday.
However Mercedes boss Toto Wolff insisted nothing has been agreed, but wouldn't confirm whether or not discussions had or were taking place with Honda.
"We are not doing anything for Honda," he said when pushed on the matter. "That is the current status quo.
"So, unless that situation changes, I don’t want to contribute to rumours out there, that are false and I think are damaging for Honda and create hardened standpoints from teams or from other stakeholders. We’ll see what happens."
