The Spanish Grand Prix will play host to the first ‘Fan Festival’ in Formula 1, with a new initiative launched under new owners Liberty Media.
The fan zone at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will be ‘reimagined’, with racing simulators, a 200-metre zip line, state of the art Pit Stop Challenges and live performances from local DJs all featuring, in order to aid the experience for spectators.
There will also be a dedicated television channel launched at the event for fans in attendance, which will feature live interviews, insights from experts, and appearances by Formula 1 legends.
Several competitions will also run for fans across the course of the weekend, with the main prize a ride in a two-seater F1 car at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Paddock Club guests will be granted access to a range of show cars, an engine display from AMG and a tour of the drivers’ parade truck.
“From the outset, we have focused on getting fans closer to the action and broadening the appeal of the sport,” said Sean Bratches, Managing Director, Commercial Operations at Formula 1.
“The launch of this weekend’s Fan Festival marks the beginning of this journey and we are excited about bringing races to life in this way over the course of the season and beyond.”
