Haas will switch to Carbon Industrie brakes for this weekend’s Russian Grand Prix, after sampling the manufacturer’s products during in-season testing last week.
Improving performance under braking has been a crucial focus for Haas during its time in Formula 1, with Romain Grosjean in particular sensitive to the material he has available.
Both Grosjean and team-mate Kevin Magnussen sampled Carbon Industrie’s brakes during testing in Bahrain last week and will run the products at Sochi, as opposed to equipment from Brembo.
“To be fair to Brembo the last updates we had in brakes that arrived in China were much better, it took a long time to get them,” said Grosjean.
“I was not screaming to change to Carbon Industrie but it was in the pipe line; we tried them and we’re both pretty pleased with it, we felt like we had more control under braking.
“I’m very sensitive to my left pedal, so I need to get good brakes to get the confidence and push the car to its maximum limits, so we’re going to run them here.
“There's still a little bit of work we need to be doing around the mapping and [in terms of] finding the solution to those brakes, but definitely it’s going to help me a little bit to find the last few hundredths.”
Grosjean scored his first points of the year in Bahrain courtesy of eighth place.
