The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve has confirmed it will make a host of safety changes to accommodate the new faster 2017 cars for this year's Canadian Grand Prix in June.
Whilst almost all the circuits on the calendar have been told to make some minor modifications, the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve has been singled out as one of the most heavily revised due to its high-speed nature and the proximity of the walls and barriers.
More than 5,000 tyres will be replaced with TechPro barriers around the circuit, most notably at Turns 1 and 2, as well as the hairpin.
Turn 5 will see 'Safer Barrier' technology, currently used in NASCAR, replacing the metal barrier that currently lines the circuit.
Whilst there will be no changes to the circuit, gravel traps at Turns 8 and 9 will be replaced with ashpalt to "give the drivers a better opportunity to get back on track and continue the race," a circuit spokesperson confirmed to Motorsport Week.
Turns 13 and 14, an area more widely known as the 'Wall of Champions', will also see changes, with the angle modified and the indentation removed. Circuit organisers promise it will have "little to no effect" on how the drivers take the corner.
