Sauber has announced that Pascal Wehrlein will return to Formula 1 action at the third round of the season in Bahrain this weekend.
Wehrlein sustained a back injury at the Race of Champions in January and he was ruled out of the first pre-season test in Spain, but was given the green light to drive during the second test.
The Mercedes-backed youngster completed Friday's practice sessions in Australia, but withdrew amid fitness concerns, with his training regime having been hit by the effects of his injury, and was replaced by Ferrari reserve driver Antonio Giovinazzi.
Giovinazzi retained the Sauber drive in China as Wehrlein improved his fitness levels, but Sauber has now confirmed that the German will pilot the C36-Ferrari at Sakhir this weekend, alongside Marcus Ericsson.
Wehrlein moved across to Sauber for 2017, having completed his rookie year with the now-defunct Manor team last season.
Giovinazzi, who finished 12th in Australia but crashed out heavily in damp conditions in China, will return to his role as Ferrari's reserve driver.
