McLaren-Honda’s opening to pre-season testing has been hindered by an oil systems issue, after Fernando Alonso completed just a sole installation lap.
McLaren carried out a filming day at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Sunday, with both Alonso and new team-mate Stoffel Vandoorne racking up mileage on the MCL32.
Alonso, along with several other drivers, appeared on track shortly after 09:00 local time, when the green flag was given to begin eight days of pre-season running.
Alonso completed an installation lap in the MCL32 but after returning to the pit lane, a problem was detected with his car.
“We have an oil systems issue which requires a full investigation,” a Honda spokesperson confirmed to Motorsport Week.
“We plan to run again today, but due to the difficult access location it will take several hours to resolve.”
Red Bull has also had a difficult morning, with Daniel Ricciardo stopping at Turn 4 on only his fourth lap of running due to a sensor issue.
