Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has unveiled the winning entry from his 2017 Formula 1 helmet design competition.
The three-time F1 champion opened up his 2017 helmet design to fans and previously announced over 8,000 entries had been logged in just a few weeks.
Current regulations mean Hamilton’s helmet will remain the same throughout the F1 season, although each driver is allowed a one-off special at a race.
The design chosen by Hamilton is similar to his previous design but features more red and yellow, with the Brazilian colours being added as a tribute to his F1 hero Ayrton Senna.
“Here it is,” Hamilton said in a post on Instagram. “The winning helmet design, a creation by Raí Caldato – @caldatodesign from Brazil.
“Raí evolves my layout by adding new stripe elements on the sides. As a tribute to my hero, Ayrton Senna the helmet features the colours of Brazil – green, yellow and blue.
“These are accompanied with the three stars that represent my Championship wins. There's yellow throughout that reminds me of my helmets in the past.
“The candy apple red balances with the yellow very well. Raí, I look forward to meeting you in person to present you with your prize! Thank you all for entering this competition, I'm taken back by your creativity.”
