Red Bull reserve driver Pierre Gasly will race for the Honda-powered Mugen team in the Japan-based Super Formula championship this season.
Red Bull had already confirmed that Gasly would compete in Super Formula, though had not yet attached the youngster to a team.
During Honda’s announcement of its 2017 motorsport programmes on Monday, Gasly’s move to Mugen was duly confirmed.
Gasly’s arrival means Mugen will expand to a two-car team for this year, joining incumbent Naoki Yamamoto.
Gasly, 21, claimed last year’s GP2 championship and eyed a promotion to Formula 1, though Red Bull opted to keep Daniil Kvyat at Toro Rosso alongside Carlos Sainz Jr.
Gasly has participated in six in-season Formula 1 test days across the past couple of years, four with Red Bull and two with Toro Rosso.
The Frenchman will continue to act as back-up to Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen at Red Bull this year.
