Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli has been granted a day of wet tyre testing during the opening pre-season test to give teams and drivers their first taste of the new full wet and intermediate tyres.
Although testing is run in late-February and early-March, wet weather isn't guaranteed at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya at that time of year, therefore Pirelli had hoped to find agreement with the teams that they could artificially wet the track on at least one of the four test days.
That has now been agreed, though Pirelli are likely to hold off until the final day in the hope it will rain naturally.
"In Barcelona for the pre-season test there will one day dedicated to wet testing," a Pirelli spokesperson confirmed to Motorsport Week.
"This [will be] with the decided 2017 tyres (wet and intermediates), as eight teams out of the 11 never tested them [during the development phase]."
Pirelli has also been granted a two-day wet tyre test with Ferrari's mule car at Fiorano on February 9-10, aimed at developing the 2018 range of wet weather tyres.
Pre-season testing takes place at the home of the Spanish Grand Prix from February 27 to March 2 and from March 7 to March 10.
