The IndyCar series has unveiled a series of initial concept designs for how the aerokits may look for the 2018 season.
IndyCar’s president of competition and operations, Jay Frye, revealed the drawings at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
It hints at the basic direction of next year’s aerokits, following the news of a contract extension for chassis manufacturer Dallara.
IndyCar says further updates will be released at the 2017 pre-season test in Pheonix from the 10-11 February.
The goal is to have a display car made and on show for the Indianapolis 500 in May, with the aim of testing in the summer months.
2017 is the third and final season of IndyCar’s manufacturer-produced aerokits, with Honda and Chevrolet going head-to-head.
The 2018 aerokit will be universal but there will be some development allowed in strictly controlled areas.
