Renault's Jolyon Palmer believes his team has failed to recognise the effort he and team-mate Kevin Magnussen have put in this season, with their results hampered by an under-developed car.
With Renault taking over Lotus at the last-minute, they are essentially running a year-old car, whilst focussing their developmemnt efforts on 2017's regulation changes.
Palmer and Magnussen's results have therefore been skewed by that fact, with the pair scoring just eight points between them.
But the Briton believes they deserve more credit than they've received given their difficult position, particularly as Renault have already signed Nico Hulkenberg for next season, leaving the pair fighting over the second seat, which looks likely to go to Magnussen.
"I think neither of us are getting enough credit to be honest," he told reporters on Thursday ahead of the United States Grand Prix.
"Neither of us have got the credit we deserved in a difficult car, which is proved by the fact that at least one of us will be replaced.
"I think the car has been tricky and both of us have both done well, with mistakes, but at certain points we have been doing a good job."
It's believed Palmer may have other options if Renault drop him, with Force India and Manor possibilities. However Palmer isnsists he's focussed on retaining his seat with the French manufacturer.
"I think definitely I want to stay with Renault, but I need to look elsewhere too, because clearly someone is going to be disappointed at the end of the day," he added.
"I want to stay in Formula 1. I want to stay with Renault firstly. I have got, from my point of view, to do the best I can every weekend, to prove why I should be here.
"But I need to be looking around because there are other options out there as well."
