Who’d bet against Mercedes? Well the next round of the Formula 1 world championship is probably your best opportunity to do just that and make a healthy return in the process, with some online Formula 1 betting sites offering great odds.
Although Mercedes have won every race this season bar Max Verstappen’s wonderful Red Bull debut win in Spain, the next round could see him repeat that success as we head to what is likely to be Mercedes’ achilles heel.
Whilst the Silver Arrows won’t be slow around the Marina Bay street circuit, having learned their lesson from 2015 when they were trounced by Red Bull’s stronger chassis, it’s likely we’ll see the tightest grid in terms of qualifying gaps and race pace this season.
Singapore’s tight street circuit has few straights, but plenty of slow speed corners where the RB12 will excel, and whilst the W09 chassis is certainly no slouch, the Mercedes power unit has bridged the gap to Red Bull’s superior chassis and then some.
Outright power doesn’t matter so much in Singapore though, therefore Renault’s deficit won’t matter.
Then again, Renault are due to deliver an upgraded unit for the race which could provide another boost for the Milton Keynes based team, further strengthening their advantage in Singapore.
You can get some good odds on a Red Bull victory, and whilst Daniel Ricciardo is coming in at a decent 4/1, Verstappen can be had for 8/1 on some online betting sites.
Whilst it’s unlikely you’ll make a massive return, it’s probably your best opportunity to be sure of a Red Bull win and therefore turn a small profit.
If you’re not keen to take such a gamble when Mercedes seem so far ahead of the competition, Nico Rosberg – winner of the previous two races and seven this season so far – can be had for 3/1 – though those odds are likely to fall in the coming days, so get them while they’re hot.
Lewis Hamilton? It seems the bookies are certain on the Briton rebounding here, with odds of 6/4 a rather unattractive offering.
If you’re feeling lucky, odds on a Ferrari victory could deliver a very tidy profit at 15/1 for Sebastian Vettel and 14/1 on Kimi Raikkonen, but be warned, the weaker Ferrari engine and it’s mediocre chassis will likely take a small miracle for one of the prancing horses to stand atop the podium come the checkered flag.
And for those that believe in miracles…you might as well take a punt on McLaren. They’re moving up the order and Singapore is likely to be their very best circuit in terms of performance. A decent chassis and good energy recovery system could prove crucial as the lack of outright power won’t disadvantage them as much as at previous events.
150/1 on both Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button, it might be worth placing a small bet, just don’t expect it to pay off. Then again, nobody expected Leicester to win the premier league at 3000/1, so stranger things have happened.
