Briton's Cal Cruthlow will start his home race from pole position just a fortnight after claiming his maiden MotoGP victory.
The LCR Honda rider eased to pole at Silverstone by a second in wet conditions on Saturday, posting his fastest lap – a 2m19.265s – with seven minutes of the session remaining. His time went unchallenged as the checkered flag fell on the session.
Valentino Rossi will line up in second place for Yamaha ahead of Suzuki's Maverick Vinales, third.
Honda's Dani Pedrosa heads the second row ahead of championship leader Marc Marquez. The Spaniard had held second position before he crashed out of the session at Copse.
Eugene Laverty looked as though he would pip Marquez and even Pedrosa to claim fourth as he improved on his final lap, before also crashing out. His previous lap however good enough to see him start sixth.
Scott Redding was seventh ahead of factory Ducati riders Andrea Iannone and Andrea Doviziosoin eighth and tenth, with Jorge Lorenzo splitting them.
