Nico Rosberg says he was shocked to see Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton make the Belgian Grand Prix podium and only realised how high up Hamilton was when he checked the results after the race.
Hamilton started on the back row of the grid after incurring a massive 60-place grid penalty and believed making the points would be a tough ask. Meanwhile second-placed Daniel Ricciardo said prior to the race that he didn't expect Hamilton to get close to him during the race.
However as things turned out, a number of incidents and some luck saw Hamilton finish just 12 seconds shy of Ricciardo to claim the final podium spot and ensure he remains at the head of the championship standings.
"After the checkered flag, I looked at the results and I knew Daniel was behind me and then I see 'HAM' in P3 and I was like 'What? Seriously?'," said Rosberg.
"I didn't know until after the race where he was!"
Rosberg insists he isn't focussing on the points situation, but instead on doing the best job he can.
"That's not what I'm focusing on," he said. "I came here wanting to win – and the opposition was unusually close this weekend, not eventually in the race, but up to that they were very close.
"I'm just very happy it was a perfect weekend for me. We did great selecting the right tyres. We were the only ones who really got it nailed with the tyre choice."
