Ferrari team boss Maurizio Arrivabene believes the first corner clash between his drivers and Red Bull's Max Verstappen cost the team a double podium finish at the Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday.
Ferrari showed great pace during qualifying to secure the second row with Kimi Raikkonen third and Sebastian Vettel fourth. At the start, the pair managed to jump a slow starting Verstappen as they approached turn one in second and third.
However all three made contact at La Source, with Vettel spinning, Raikkonen suffering a puncture and Verstappen a broken front-wing, dropping all three to the very back.
Although they managed to recover to finish sixth and ninth with Vettel ahead, Arrivabene is certain they had the pace to be second and third.
"It's such a pity," said the Italian. "We probably had the pace for finishing the grand prix with both drivers on the podium.
"Unfortunately, the accident at the first corner ruined our race," he added.
Arrivabene is however taking some positives from the weekend after their strong showing on Saturday and their good race pace.
"The positives we can take is that, despite extensive damage, our car proved fast and resilient throughout," he said. "This bodes well for our home grand prix next in Monza.
"Also, the team behaved strongly and was united both on track and back at Maranello."
