Rio Haryanto has lost his Manor Formula 1 seat after failing to meet his "contractual obligations", the team confirmed on Wednesday, with the British outfit soon to announce his replacement and Pascal Wehrlein's new team-mate.
The Indonesian driver made his debut on the grid this season with Manor after securing backing from state sponsor Pertamina. However he could only raise enough for the first half of the season, but had hoped over the summer break his management team would secure the remainder of the money to see out the season.
That doesn't look to have happened, with the team opting to replace him from the next race in Belgium.
"Rio has been a much-valued member of our team since January, when we signed a contract with him for this season," said racing director Dave Ryan.
"Some time ago, his management indicated that they were experiencing difficulties honouring the obligations of that contract beyond the Hungarian Grand Prix. Rio’s team have worked tirelessly to try to resolve that situation with his Indonesian backers and we have supported those efforts as much as possible, including allowing Rio to race in Germany.
"Unfortunately we reached a point where, in the best interests of the team, we were forced to explore other options for the remainder of the season."
The team have however offered Haryanto a reserve driver role, to which he has yet to accept.
Manor confirmed they would "shortly be announcing a new team-mate" for Wehrlein, with several drivers in the frame including Stoffel Vandoorne and Esteban Ocon.
