Romain Grosjean will face a five place grid penalty for the German Grand Prix after his Haas team replaced his gearbox following the Saturday morning practice session.
During this session Grosjean's Haas was seen undertaking a high speed spin at Turn 4, and after this Grosjean was heard to say over his team radio that "something's happening with the gearbox".
He only completed four laps in the practice hour, spending most of it in the garage.
Following the session the FIA F1 Technical Delegate Jo Bauer announced that Grosjean's gearbox had been replaced with a new one by the Haas team following FP3, and that this had been referred to the stewards as it is not in compliance with the rules that gearboxes must last six consecutive events. This usually results in a five place grid penalty.
