The FIA has announced new track limits at Hockenheim's first turn, with no part of the car now permitted to go beyond the outer edge of the kerb.
This morning in advance of FP3 the FIA F1 Race Director Charlie Whiting has announced that following "observations" of the way in which the new kerb at the exit of Turn 12 is used, plus comments made in yesterday's drivers' briefing, that "the usable track limit at Turn 1 should be the outer edge of the kerb, i.e. the edge furthest from the track.
"The performance of any driver going beyond this point, with any part of the car, will be examined in order to establish whether or not an advantage was gained by exceeding the track limit."
The policing of track limits has been a controversial topic all through the German Grand Prix weekend so far, with it reported that the sport's Strategy Group asked for their policing to be scrapped altogether.
The track limits at Hockenheim's Turn 1 has been given particular focus. In FP1 several drivers were caught running off the track at Turn 1, with Max Verstappen thought to have exceeded the limits on 14 occasions.
This in turn led to Whiting announcing that anyone who is judged to have left the track three times at that turn in the remaining practice sessions will be reported to the stewards.
