Formula 1 team bosses will meet on Thursday to discuss the future of the sport, with a look at simplifying the sport's rules following recent controversy and claims the rulebook is too complicated for the casual viewer.
Whilst the original agenda of Thursday's Strategy Group meeting includes the introduction of the Halo head protection device and a solution to wet Safety Car starts, it's believed the matter of confusing rules has now been added to that agenda after several team bosses raised concerns over the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend.
Toto Wolff believes the new radio rules are confusing and have gone too far after Nico Rosberg was punished for receiving information over his radio that avoided a gearbox failure during the British GP.
Mercedes released a statement on the Monday after the race, calling for "discussions with the relevant F1 stakeholders on the subject of the perceived over-regulation of the sport."
McLaren's Jenson Button was then penalised with a drive-through penalty in Hungary after his team broke the radio rules when he suffered a problem with his brakes – something a rival team boss, Christian Horner of Red Bull, described as "over-regulating" and "too complicated" for casual fans.
Meanwhile on Saturday in Hungary the FIA spent several hours investigating Rosberg for setting a quickest sector time under double yellow flags and the matter of 11 drivers for failing to set a time within 107 per cent.
Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene added: "My president [Sergio Marchionne] raised that topic one year ago and he said clearly we have too many complications. Clear, simple rules can help the sport."
