Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel believes he could have been P3 on the grid for Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix had it not been for a "sleeping" Jenson Button during the top-ten shoot-out.
Vettel qualified fifth but a late yellow flag caused by Fernando Alonso spoiled several drivers final flying laps. However it had cleared once Vettel arrived at the corner and he was therefore still on a hot lap before catching a slowing Button – the McLaren driver having backed off because of the flags.
Vettel, who was just ahead of pole sitter Nico Rosberg on the track at the time, accused Button of ruining his lap by not moving out of the way as he approached.
"I don't think it's fair [the result]," said Vettel. "We had the yellow flag in the end, and then Jenson didn't move out of the way, so otherwise I think we could have been top three easily.
"I think he was sleeping. He didn't expect anyone to keep going, so he backed off," explained the German. "Going into Turn 12, he didn't move, and by Turn 13 he realised and did move, but by then I had lost a lot of time already.
"I was on the same lap as Nico [Rosberg] and you saw what he did.
"It's a bit of a shame. We did some changes [to the car] after P3 [final practice] and I think they worked. The car was really coming alive, but we couldn't show that."
