Red Bull Racing's teenage sensation Max Verstappen has won the official Driver of the Day award for the Austrian Grand Prix, where he scored his second podium of the season.
With the accolade, he becomes the first driver to win the award three times in 2016, having picked it up in Canada, where he finished fourth; and Spain, where he won.
Verstappen likely won the vote thanks to a performance similar to that seen in Spain, where he held off Kimi Raikkonen whilst on older, slower tyres. Verstappen started the race on the Ultrasoft tyre, and pitted on Lap 15 for the Soft tyre, which he took to the end of the race – meaning a 56-lap stint on the hardest compound available.
He was poised to take the final step on the podium in third place, but Rosberg's last-lap collision damage meant he was elevated to a "bonus" second place.
It was a strong performance from the young Dutchman to climb from eighth on the grid to be in contention for a podium position, and he now sits sixth in the drivers' standings.
Race winner Lewis Hamilton, sixth-place Jenson Button, and debut points-scorer Pascal Wehrelin also fared well in the votes.
