Charles Leclerc has stormed to an exceptionally dominant pole position for the opening Austrian GP3 race around the Red Bull Ring, ending the session half a second faster than ART Grand Prix team-mate Alexander Albon.
It was an ART Grand Prix one-two-three at the top, with Dutch racer Nick de Vries set to start from third on the grid, despite running wide on his final timed lap in the session.
Ralph Boschung managed to break the ART Grand Prix monopoly at the front, qualifying fourth ahead of Nirei Fukuzumi who set the initial pace for the French outfit around the fast-flowing Austrian circuit.
As ever the GP3 qualifying session was a closely fought affair, with the entire field separated by only +1.6 seconds.
Matt Parry ended proceedings as the fastest British racer for Koiranen GP, ahead of Oscar Tunjo. The Colombian racer was the latest to suffer damage to his car after running over the kerbs lining the Red Bull Ring, losing his left wing mirror on the exit of Turn 8.
Meanwhile British duo Jake Dennis and Jake Hughes came home eighth and ninth for Arden International and DAMS respectively, with Haas F1 development driver Santiago Ferrucci rounding out the top ten for DAMS.
The session ran completely incident free, with only a handful of drivers making minor mistakes and running wide throughout the session and ruining their individual lap times.
The GP3 field will be one car short for the remainder of the weekend, after Giuliano Alesi was advised not to participate after enduring an almighty shunt at Turn 1 during practice on Friday.
