Sebastian Vettel’s spin in practice two was caused by a brake issue on his Ferrari, which resulted in a high-speed spin in which the German racer narrowly avoided contact with the barriers.
The spin in question occurred under braking for Turn 2 during the final few minutes of the session, and brought Vettel’s day to a conclusion.
The session in particular had been interrupted by a heavy rain shower earlier in the session, preventing many of the drivers from gaining valuable track time ahead of the race weekend.
Despite the lack of track time in the afternoon and the unfortunate spin, along with an impending five-place grid penalty due to a gearbox change at the start of the weekend, Vettel is remaining positive.
“It was a decent day,” explained an upbeat Vettel after practice in Austria.
“It is not entirely clear where we stand, as we didn’t have a lot of running due to the weather, in particular in the afternoon, but in general the car feels good.
“When I span at the end of the second session, I had an issue with brake distribution.
“It caught me by surprise, but it didn’t matter too much, as I only lost a couple of minutes, and in the end it didn’t make a lot of a difference.”
Ferrari are still searching for their first victory of the 2016 season, despite leading over 60 laps so far this season.
Kimi Raikkonen also span during practice two in Austria, however the Finn was able to continue circulating after he too managed to just avoid contact with the barriers.
