Ferrari must continue to focus on the current season instead of switching focus to 2017, as team principal Maurizio Arrivabene believes the title remains within reach, despite a growing gap to Mercedes which stands at 81 points.
With the sport set for big changes next season, the majority of larger teams have begun dividing resources between the two projects, but focusing completing on next year would be "crazy" at such an early stage, the Italian said.
"In this situation we have now, we have a gap from Mercedes but we are not that far from them," insisted Arrivabene.
"It is crazy to talk about next year, we need to focus on this year. We focus our attention on the areas where we have weaknesses and try to improve," he added. "That is what we are going to do."
Arrivabene reckons just a single win this season could put them in contention for the title, believing the driver rivalry at Mercedes between team-mate Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg could begin to play into their favour.
"It is not just a matter of the number of race wins – but about how you can put pressure on those ahead of us," he said. "We must take into account that Rosberg and Hamilton will take points from each other, because otherwise it would be tough.
"The championship is long and we have had several unfortunate days – while they have had only one bad occasions. But if it happens then it is very easy to climb up the points table. We have to believe and have to be positive.
"To me it would be fine to win the title with one[race] win, just as Keke Rosberg did [in 1982]."
