Max Verstappen received his first reprimand of the season after the stewards deemed he had impeded Williams' Valtteri Bottas at the final chicane during opening practice for the Canadian Grand Prix.
The Red Bull driver slowed ahead of Bottas as they approached the chicane, forcing the Finnish driver to take action and cut the chicane to avoid a collision.
"Come on, did you see that?" said Bottas over team radio, to which his engineer responded: "Copy that… dangerous."
The stewards report deemed Verstappen had "slowed unnecessarily in front of car 77 [Bottas]", and would therefore receive a reprimand – his first of the year.
Should a driver receive three reprimands over a 12 months period, they will automatically receive a ten-place grid penalty for the current or next event, but only if two or more of the reprimands were for driving infringements.
