Honda have to make a decision on whether or not to introduce an upgraded power unit at the Canadian Grand Prix next weekend, despite initial dyno tests proving encouraging.
Honda's Yasuke Hasegawa admitted that the latest developments back at their Sakura facility have proven positive, but he is keen to introduce them at the right time, rather than rush something through which could be more efficient.
"There is no doubt that power is very important for Canada, which is a very stop and go circuit," he said. "Fuel consumption is also very important. I want to introduce some of the updates of course. We want to but we can’t decide, we can’t tell. So we will try to prepare.
"Some of the updates that we have run in Sakura on the dyno I have seen have good results. The thing we have to do is confirm that technology is OK [before we race it].
“Even just a one per cent improvement or a ten per cent improvement we still need to use the same tokens, so in that case we would want to choose the ten per cent upgrade."
The McLaren engine supplier has yet to use any of its remaining 18 development tokens during the 2016 season.
