Lewis Hamilton was quickest as second practice for the Russian Grand Prix came to a close on Friday afternoon, despite a spin and some technical trouble which kept him in the garage for 15 minutes.
The Britain’s 1m37.583 was the quickest lap of the weekend so far and gave Hamilton a 0.652 second advantage over second placed Sebastian Vettel in second.
The Ferrari driver looked quick on the super-soft tyre but the session wasn’t all positive as he came to a halt on the start/finish straight, causing a brief Virtual Safety Car as his Ferrari was recovered back to the pitlane.
Vettel radioed over that he lost his electronics with more than 40 minutes of the session remaining.
The second Mercedes of Nico Rosberg – who topped the opening session – was third quickest ahead of Kimi Raikkonen and the Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo.
The session, like FP1, saw several drivers run-wide at Turn 2, with several spinning as well, including Hamilton, Jolyon Palmer, Rio Haryanto and Romain Grosjean.
Jenson Button showed improved pace for McLaren, posting the eighth quickest time ahead of Felipe Massa and his McLaren team-mate Fernando Alonso completing the top ten places.
