Valentino Rossi dominated the Spanish Grand Prix to end his winless streak which goes back to last year's British GP in August, beating both Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez to the checkered flag.
The Yamaha rider led every lap of the race around the Jerez circuit, managing a two second gap to Lorenzo which only came under threat once when the Spaniard made a lunge at the Nieto corner on lap two, which failed to get him ahead of the Italian.
Lorenzo had to fend off attacks from Marquez for much of the opening laps but come the halfway point he pulled clear, eventually finishing five seconds up the road.
The second Honda of Dani Pedrosa made up three places to finish fourth ahead of the Suzuki's of Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales, who had a close battle with Andrea Dovizioso before the Ducati rider was forced to retire on lap nine.
Andrea Iannone was the highest ranked Ducati rider in seventh, finishing three seconds up the road from Pol Espargaro.
Aspa's Eugene Laverty finished ninth ahead of Avintia's Hector Barbera, with LCR Honda rider Cal Crutchlow just missing out on a top ten spot by six seconds.
Only two riders failed to finish with Alvaro Bautista crashing from 12th place, joining Dovizioso on the sidelines.
