A possible Formula 1 race in Las Vegas would not take over from Austin as the United States Grand Prix if a deal can be reached to get the Nevada city on the calendar in the future, according to Bernie Ecclestone.
Ecclestone recently revealed that the gambling capital of the world is in talks over hosting an F1 race in the near future, having last done so back in 1982 when a track was constructed in the car park of Caesars Palace casino.
Speaking to reporters in Bahrain ahead of this weekend's grand prix, the 85-year-old said he was due to discuss the proposal further with potential organisers on Friday evening.
However, he confirmed that Las Vegas would not take over from Austin as the host of the United States GP, and would instead act as a second American race.
"We will keep Austin and have another race [in the US]," he said, before insisting any race in Las Vegas was still "a couple of years" away from joining the calendar.
"I am going to be talking to them [later today]," he added. "It is possible that there could be an event there. They are going to have Formula E anyway."
