Esteban Gutierrez says scoring points during Haas F1’s maiden season would be "something extraordinary".
The American outfit will debut in the sport at this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix at Melbourne’s Albert Park Circuit.
The Haas VF-16 showed encouraging signs during testing, despite suffering the inevitable reliability and mechanical issues.
Gutierrez believes it is brave for Haas to aim for scoring points during its rookie F1 campaign but says the team will give it everything to achieve that.
"Well, it’s very ambitious as a new team to arrive and set a target to score points but we will work very hard to achieve that," he said during the FIA press conference on Thursday.
"It’s definitely the way we want to go. I think initially it’s very important to keep our feet on the ground, make sure that we run smoothly during the weekend and if we accomplish that this weekend we can get out in a very happy mood.
"Obviously we have everything to gain so achieving points would be something extraordinary."
