1980 F1 world champion Alan Jones believes Ferrari should replace Kimi Raikkonen with Daniel Ricciardo for the 2017 season.
Raikkonen’s contract at Ferrari runs out at the end of this season and Jones is confident Ricciardo will pick up the second spot alongside Sebastian Vettel.
The Red Bull Racing driver was linked to a Ferrari seat for 2016 before the Italian team confirmed Raikkonen would stay for another year.
Should Ricciardo move to Ferrari for 2017, it would be his second time as a team-mate to Vettel, having raced alongside him in 2014 at Red Bull.
"They've obviously got plans for what they’re going to do next year, which I hope is going to be Daniel Ricciardo," Jones said on the Australian Grand Prix podcast.
"They’re probably thinking 'stick with the known factor (for now) – we've got Vettel, we've got Kimi'. (Kimi) does on occasion put up a good race, so I think they’ve done the right thing.
"But in terms of Daniel, I'm really confident (and) hopeful that he'll land that Ferrari seat next year."
