Ryan Hunter-Reay has explained how he is struggling with the handling of his No. 28 Honda-powered car, after the opening two practice sessions ahead of the IndyCar Grand Prix of St. Petersburg,
The 2012 champion has explained that there too much imbalance in the car, along with a considerable lack of grip.
Despite the poor handling of his car, Hunter-Reay ended the opening practice session fourth fastest, before dropping down the order in the second session to finish 12th overall.
“Not really the first day we’d like to see here,” explained Hunter-Reay, who has never won at St. Petersburg.
“We just ended up with too much imbalance in the car – lacking grip.
“We need to put our heads together tonight and come out with a better package because we have a good half-second to find tomorrow.”
Many drivers up and down the paddock have marvelled over the competitiveness already witnessed this weekend, with the top 19 drivers in the opening practice session separated by just over one second.
Despite suffering a bad opening day to the weekend, Hunter-Reay is remaining positive and optimistic ahead of qualifying and the 110-lap race on Sunday.
“Nonetheless, it’s good to be back at the Firestone Grand Prix here in St. Pete,” continued Hunter-Reay.
“We’re looking forward to the weekend and hope to get up front.”
