Kevin Magnussen expects that he will enjoy racing in Formula 1 more the second time around with Renault as he prepares to make his return to grand prix racing.
Magnussen debuted with McLaren back in 2014, but was dropped at the end of the season to make way for the arrival of Fernando Alonso.
McLaren released Magnussen from his reserve role at the end of last year, freeing him up to test Porsche's LMP1 car and Mercedes in DTM.
However, the Dane was handed a second chance to race in F1 by Renault after Pastor Maldonado's backing fell through, allowing him to enjoy his first run in the R.S.16 car earlier this week at testing.
Speaking to reporters in Barcelona, Magnussen said that he expected to enjoy F1 more this year, having realised what he lost before.
"I think I’ll just enjoy it more because you never know when it will end," Magnussen said.
"I will enjoy everything a lot more, I’m sure of that because sometimes when you lose things, no matter what it is, if you lose something, then you find out what it means to you.
"If you’re happy and you are enjoying it, you always drive a bit better, so that should be positive."
Magnussen also spoke about the difference between working at McLaren and Renault, saying that he could relate to Lewis Hamilton's assertion upon joining Mercedes that it reminded him of his junior racing days.
"I can relate to that. It’s pure motorsport, pure Formula 1," Magnussen said.
"When you go to Enstone you don’t see anything that hasn’t got to do with Formula 1. It’s only Formula 1 there, and everyone at Enstone is in Formula 1. It’s very focused and I like that."
