Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost has warned Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz that they mustn't push too hard in 2016, otherwise they risk a season of crashes.
Both drivers made their Formula 1 debuts last year and impressed massively, with Verstappen securing two fourth place finishes whilst Sainz drove well, but suffered from poor reliability.
Tost has urged both to be cautious in their second seasons, believing they were already driving on the limit and anything more would risk unnecessary crashes.
"The second year could become more difficult if the drivers are not disciplined enough," Tost is quoted by Motorsport.com.
"That means if they think, for their second year, [they need to] show people their real potential, then they will have difficulties because they will have crashes."
Verstappen and Sainz can improve though according to Tost: "Both drivers showed already last year a very high level and they cannot drive much faster. But what they can do, because of their experience, is to get more out of the car during qualifying and also in special conditions during the race.
"That does not directly come from driving the car at the limit because they were already at the limit."
